Robert Godard

The powerlifting community has lost a great champion. Robert Godard gracefully and faithfully fulfilled all his duties and responsibilities here on earth and has been called home by our Lord and Savior. Robert was 44 years old and had waged a brave battle with cancer for many years. Robert was a charter member of the Jerry Capello powerlifting team that broke countless records from 1993 – 2015. As a teenager his father, Dave, would take Robert to the famous Butte Falls gym (70 miles round-trip) three times per week for training. In 1994, at the age of 16, Robert represented the United States in the Goodwill  Games in Moscow and brought home a Gold Medal. Over the years Robert has held state and world records in the 148, 165, 181, and 198 pound weight classes and achieved his PR of 654lbs deadlift at 181 pounds.

You could not find a better friend or lifting partner than Robert. He refused to miss a workout and was always positive and encouraging to everyone around, yet always humble in his own accomplishments. Whenever I hear thunder roar I think of Robert, Jerry and “the boys” and I know there is some heavy lifting going on in heaven.
