Born December 18, 1942, and died January 6, 2025, in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Bud pulled an amazing World Record Deadlift of 684lbs one month shy of age 68, weighing 243. Bud was a stiff legged dead lifter. He never used his legs. A dead lifter in their prime doing 800lbs would have a difficult time pulling 684lbs stiff legged. Bud broke dead lift World Records over 20 times. He won 12 World Championships in Anaheim, CA; Las Vegas, NV; and Reno, NV!
He had a gym at his house and at least 20 people on any given day would join him for a workout. He, Ed Acey, Darren Carr and a few others would have coffee at the One-Man Band Restaurant in Spanish Fork every day at 9:00am and 3:00pm for over 15 years.
Bud and Carol (his wife) were avid Utah Jazz and BYU Football fans. I joined Bud and Carol to watch Utah Jazz games at their home numerous times. It was just as entertaining watching their reaction as fans as watching the game itself.
I joined Bud and Ed at the One-Man Band Restaurant when I would be driving through Spanish Fork. If it was between 9:00-9:45am or 3:00-3:45pm you didn’t need to call them to see if they were there, trust me they were always there at that time.
Bud was very quiet and humble and understated. He was as old school tough as it gets. He never got high emotionally while deadlifting or training and never got down either. The main characteristics of any big-time pro athlete.
Bud made a huge impact on me and on many people in WABDL. He came into the powerlifting world quietly and left quietly but his deadlifts reared like a Lion! Bud you will be missed.
