I have had the privilege of serving you as the organization’s secretary for about 38 years. During that time I was able to keep my commitments in a timely fashion. This last year has been the exception. I won’t make excuses because the bottom line is what actions (or lack thereof) resulted. I should have resigned earlier for a number of reasons:
- My age (83)
- Inability to see well (glaucoma)
- Health issues (two cancer operations and rehabs this year)
- Personal family issues including the recent, sudden, and unexpected death of my 55-year-old son
Like many of you, I have had to face my difficulties without outside support, and I’m not as good at that as I used to be. We all have had challenges during these past couple of years, so I understand I’m not alone having a stressful time.
Gus has found a team in Hawaii who are willing to commit to the work this organization needs to be top rate. I have no doubt that this next year will be better, and everything will be back on track. You are now in exceptionally good hands!
In the meantime, records are being audited and brought up to date. Certificates are being made and will be out by the end of February or shortly thereafter.
Thanks you for your friendship over the years. It has been a pleasure to know many of you personally, and a pleasure to work for you.
Gratefully and respectfully,
Elma Thomas
