Mike was born August 29, 1954 in Carmel, CA. He passed away from a rare disease on March 17, 2018 in Placerville, surrounded by family and friends.
Mike graduated from Monterey High School in 1972 and in 1978 Mike began working out at Baileys Gym in Pacific Grove with Jerry Bailey and this was the beginning of his love for body building & weight lifting. Along the way, he won the title of Mr. Modesto, competed in Mr. Northern California, and in various other body building contests. Mike also owned his own gym in Seaside, CA and trained well known people like Herman Edwards and Mark McGwire.
In keeping with Mike’s love of lifting, he began powerlifting in his locally famous garage gym and competed and judged in multiple powerlifting federations. Mike had a personal best squat of 804 lbs. at the age of 56 and still holds the WABDL deadlift California state record at 633.7 lbs. in Masters 54-60, 242 weight class.
Mike was very involved as a competitor and judge in the early years of the WABDL California competitions and played a significant role in their success. He also mentored and inspired many lifters over the past 30 years. Mike was one of the original Super Training team members and an integral part of Team Super Trainings success. Mike leaves behind many friends in the powerlifting world.
