Anders Wahlund

andersvalund3Anders was born in 1953 & he first got bit by the iron bug when he was trying to beef up for Judo when he competed at the national level. He was training with among others Andreas Carling, at the old hardcore legendary Steneberg-gym here in Gävle, Sweden. He started to compete in bench, deadlift & squat back in 1979 & he was winning a lot of trophy’s back then.

In 1980 Anders got the chance to go over to USA & train with the legendary Jon Cole at the Arizona State University! He stayed there for 2 years & was traveling & competing with Jon Cole’s team. His best placing was 6th at the Arizona State Champoinships in 1981. In 1982 he tore a muscle & had to go under the knife & was out of business for a year. He started to train hard again with strenght freaks like Lance Gille & Gran Rosen. And finaly in 1997 at the tender age of 43 & after training for so many years he finaly found his thing. THE DEADLIFT!

He stumbled on a wildcard to the WABDL VW in USA & went over with Anna & Gran Rosen to Portland/Oregon. It was a success! Anna won her class in both bench & deadlift; Gran was 3rd in the bench  & Anders won his his class 100 kg, age 40-45 years! Hungrier than ever Anders went home again to train even harder!

In 1999 he went to Reno with Karoliina Liuska, Janne Sjgren & Sandra Lnn,  and was setting a new world record with a 280kg deadlift in the -90 kg class age 45-50 years!

Today Anders is 4 times WABDL champion:
-1997 Portland/Oregon
-1998 Portland/Oregon
-2000 Reno/Nevada
-2001 Reno/Nevada
-2003 Phoenix/Arizona

In 2001 he was doing some strength contests in Sweden but his hand was hurting badly every time he was going heavy in the deadlift…, Still as the warrior he is he went over to USA to compete anyway.
It was 18 dudes in his class from all over the world & he was in bad pain… 260 Kg..easy! Up to 272,5 kg and 5 guys where doing the same… Ok up to 277 kg in the fird attempt…His little finger was snapped…
But everyone else failed on their lifts so Anders won again!
