Terry Luehrs

\

Born July 10, 1952, in Hillsboro Oregon, died on February 8, 2024, in Salem Oregon.

Terry served WABDL as a judge, usually the head judge, since 1993. He and I were certified as judges at the same time in the USPF by Vince Moser the Washington State Chairman. There were many times at the World Championships that we would go into the deadlifts anywhere from one to two hours behind. With Terry as head judge and me being the MC we would be able to catch up and finish the last flight of deadlifts on time.

Terry was a basketball player in high school and junior college, eventually going semi-pro. He was about 6’6″ and had a black belt in martial arts. Although Terry was a athlete with many interests, his favorite past time was coaching his powerlifting team- Team Oregon. Terry learned how to master the bench shirt and coached at least 35 lifters. I remember working out with him once, and he lifted off for me. I instantly was able to put 30 pounds more on the bar with his liftoff and positivity.

Terry Judged every WABDL World Championship from 1997-2019. He would also judge many other meets, from: Tricities, Dallas, Portland, Gulf Shores, Henrietta, Honolulu, Monterey, San Francisco, Olympia, Tacoma, Spokane, Post Falls, Medford, Bend, Springfield, Sale, Boise, Nampa, Anaheim, Reno, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and so many more. In all Terry judged and helped with weigh-ins from 1993-2019 encompassing 182 meets.

Terry is a WABDL hall of famer and was very supportive when WABDL was first formed. In the 27 year history of WABDL Terry has judged more meets than any other judge. His name will continue to live on!
